The MRCPsych Course
Trainees are expected to attend the regional MRC Psych course which takes place in the
Academic Department of the RLUH, and up to one day a week study leave is available during
term time for this purpose.
Rotational psychiatry trainees will need to contact the MRCPsych Course administrator to
arrange your place on the course.
The Course has its own
web presence and you can register
on-line.
Attendance at the MRCPsych Course is mandatory for rotational psychiatry trainees. To take
the MRCPsych examinations candidates must satisfy their consultant and college tutor that
they have achieved a 75% attendance rate at the local MRCPsych Course. Attendance is
monitored and fed back to the College Tutor for review purposes.
There are two years to the MRCPsych Course, which is currently organised by Professor
Jonathan Hill and Mrs Anne Gould, (administrator). The first year involves a full day
course once a week. In year two the course is again one day a week.
An half-day a week could be available to trainees for research. However, active
participation in research must be demonstrated to qualify for this additional half-day.
Research and Audit
Research and audit can both generate publications and experience that is vital for career
progression and for boosting the trainees curriculum vitae.
Research is encouraged at Halton, and supervision is available from the College Tutor and
Consultants; the University Department also offers supervision and there are a number of
ongoing University projects in which trainees may become involved. |
